WOMEN TO WATCH

Blair Shriner

Director of Marketing & Communications
Westrock Coffee Company

I serve as director of marketing and communications at Westrock Coffee, a private label beverage manufacturer for global brands. After starting my career in New York City in the beverage industry, I returned to Little Rock and joined Westrock. I now lead internal and external communications while overseeing a range of marketing initiatives for the company.

PRESSING QUESTIONS

What I learned from my first job

The ability to balance several projects at once. There’s nothing that an entry-level job at a New York City agency can’t teach you about working in our industry.

Best advice I ever received

To listen first. I’ve found that some of the most valuable insights come from learning from others and being open to perspectives beyond my own.

Biggest challenges in my career

The lack of visibility. Most people don’t realize that behind every speech, interview, press release or social media post is a communications professional shaping the message and ensuring it resonates.

Nonprofit I wish more people knew about

CARE for Animals. We’re big dog people and adopted our second dog, Meatloaf, from them. He’s been an incredible addition to our family, and I love the work they do.

How I knew this was my passion

I’ve always been drawn to storytelling. This field allows me to bring meaningful stories to life for impactful brands and the people behind them.

The one thing I wish people knew about my field

That every piece of content a company or brand puts out is intentionally crafted, with thoughtful strategy and careful consideration happening behind the scenes.

What keeps me coming back to my job every day

The variety. No two days are ever the same. I never know what might come across my desk, and that constant change keeps the work dynamic engaging.

One practice I use to maintain my mental health

Working out. I love a good power walk or workout class as often as possible. It keeps me sane.

The first thing I do to course-correct when I hit a wall

Closing something out and coming back to it. If I'm feeling stuck, I try to close it out, give it a break and come back with a fresh perspective.

Best career moment so far

An exciting grand opening of our new manufacturing facility in Conway.

A skill I never expected to need in this field

That changes by the day.
