How to Do Spring Break in Central Arkansas

Three cheers for spring break! It’s the perfect way to take a timeout from the real world with your kiddos, but let’s be real — not everybody is hopping on a plane to a tropical destination.

Mini Day Camp at Pinnacle Mountain State Park

‘Junie B. Jones is Not a Crook’ Spring Break Matinees at Arkansas Arts Center Children’s Theatre

The Children’s Theatre presents special matinee performances for families all week long during spring break! Spend the afternoon with one of your very favorite book characters — Junie B. Jones herself — as she learns about finders keepers, losers weepers.  $12.50 General ticket price, $10 for Arkansas Arts Center members, $10 per person for groups of 10 or more. Spring Break Week at Heifer Village

Everyone can be a farmer! The week starts with Alpacapalooza on Saturday, March 17 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., where there will be food trucks, vendor, activities and fun for everyone. Then daily from March 19-23, take part in a craft and special program at the farm where kids can participate in planting and learning about how a garden grows. The center is open from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday and the activities start at 10 a.m. For info: Heifer.orgFREE!

 

Spring Break at Clinton Presidential Center

In conjunction with “Louder Than Words – Rock, Power, and Politics,” students will have the opportunity to rock! Bring your children to be a part of a musical experience and learn how to jam like the pros. Additional exhibit-related activities will be announced10 a.m.-2 p.m. March 19-23. Spring break activities are free; admission fees to tour the Center still apply: $10, seniors ages 62 and up $8, children ages 6-17 $6, children under 6 free. For info: ClintonFoundation.org.

 

Spring Break at Museum of Discovery

Meet and greet with characters at the Museum of Discovery! Buddy the Dinosaur from PBS’ “Dinosaur Train” will be there March 19 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. and Super Why and Wonder Red from PBS’ “Super Why” will be there 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on March 20. Spring Break at the Little Rock Zoo

Spring break fun starts on Sunday, March 18 with a big cat celebration! Then, every day following will celebrate a different type of animal, including  bears, reptiles, apes and more. A complete schedule of each day’s activities is available on the Zoo’s website. Activities go from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. each day. Spring Break Theatre Camp at The Rep

Join The Rep’s Education Department for an exciting week of theatre activities, design projects, music and movement explorations and bring to life stories from around the world. Discover the world of theatre in an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of The Rep and take a special field trip to Heifer International to learn about their global work to end hunger and poverty. At the end of the week, students will perform an original script for family and friends in The Rep Annex Black Box Theatre. For students in grades K-6; March 19-23 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. $250.
