Looking to integrate meaningful ways of giving back into your daily routine? Look for businesses that offer the chance to both shop local and make a difference. Whether you’re shopping for clothing, furniture or everyday essentials, the metro has multiple storefronts where your dollars go directly toward supporting nonprofits that give back to our community. Here’s where to shop for the greater good.
ReStore
Habitat for Humanity of Central Arkansas offers a wide selection of new and gently-used furniture, housewares, appliances and more, including new building supplies, at its ReStores. Every purchase supports the construction of new Habitat homes in Pulaski County, helping local families build strength, stability and independence through affordable housing. With locations on South University Avenue and on North Rodney Parham Road, shopping with purpose has never been easier. Learn more here.
Live Thankfully
When you shop at Live Thankfully on Rodney Parham, you’re supporting women and children in crisis through the store’s main partner nonprofit Immerse Arkansas. The store features new and gently used clothing, shoes, accessories and furniture. Here, your purchase helps provide resources and support for vulnerable youth in central Arkansas. Learn more here.
The Simple Nest
Located in the former Cajun’s Wharf space in Riverdale’s design district, Shop Simple Designs is also home to The Simple Nest, its charitable arm selling curated vintage home furnishings and decor. Proceeds support individuals and families in need by working with local nonprofits to furnish safe, comfortable homes. Learn more here.
Resale Store
Shopping at Our House’s Resale Store helps support homeless and near-homeless individuals and families. Locations on West Markham Street and on JFK Boulevard in North Little Rock accept donations and offer clothing, shoes, home goods, furniture and more. Proceeds go directly toward advancing Our House’s mission and supporting its clients. Learn more here.
More Ways to Support
Even if you’re not shopping at a nonprofit’s store, you can still make your purchase count. From seasonal events to year-round efforts, there are plenty of ways to shop local and support the causes you care about.
SoMa Cares
SoMa, the vibrant neighborhood along South Main Street in downtown Little Rock, has partnered with local shops to offer a round-up option at checkout. When customers round up their purchases, the extra change is donated directly to a different cause each month. Past recipients include Our House, El Zócalo and Booker T. Washington Elementary School.
Partners Card
Each fall, UAMS raises funds for its Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute through the popular Partners Card program. For $50, shoppers receive 20% off purchases at nearly 200 shops, restaurants and businesses across central Arkansas for 10 days.
Holiday House
The Junior League of Little Rock hosts its Holiday House each year during the holiday shopping season with a wide variety of vendor booths and special events. Proceeds fund more than half of JLLR’s community projects, including Stuff the Bus, Kota Camp and Little Readers Rock.
