Time to lace up those sneaks, Little Rock. We’ve been telling you about all sorts of races and fun runs coming to the capitol city. There are enough, in fact, that we thought it’d be helpful to map them all out for you. Besides, you should be focused on the running part, not trying to compile details.
You can call us “coach,” if you want.
Fleet Feet Firecracker Fast 5K
When: July 4, 7:30 a.m.
Where: starting line at the intersection of University and Kavanaugh, finish line at War Memorial Stadium
Why: Now in its 39th year, this is one of those “quick and dirty” races. Yes, you’re going to sweat, but the adrenaline is at top levels. It’s not called “firecracker” just for the holiday. The first 50 men and 50 women to finish all get awards, and registration alone gets you a goodie bag and a Nike Tech race shirt. Nice. For more info, click here.
Nike 5K Fun Run
When: July 10, 7:15 p.m.
Where: The Promenade at Chenal
Why: Apart from the pleasantry of running through Chenal Valley, the second annual Nike 5K also benefits the Boys and Girls Club of Central Arkansas. This race includes an after party at The Tavern Sports Grill, as well as a one-mile run for kids ages 14 and under. For more info, click here.
The Glo Run
When: July 18, 8:50 p.m.
Where: Burns Park
Why: This one isn’t rocket science, folks. It’s a 5K fun run (seriously, it’s not a timed event) with glow sticks, black lights and giant light-up safari animals. Early registration has almost passed, but if you use the code “RMHCglo” at registration, you also get 30 percent off, and 10 percent goes to the Ronald McDonald House. For more info, click here.
Insane Inflatable 5K
When: July 25, first wave at 8:45 a.m.
Where: Burns Park
Why: There’s a reason this run has been on our radar since February. It’s 3.1 miles complete with towering, blow-up, moon bounce-type slides and obstacles. Registration includes a medal, t-shirt, bib, childlike wonder and access to the post-race party, aka games, music, food and lots of water. For more info, click here.
Color Vibe 5K
When: August 15, 9 a.m.
Where: Barton Coliseum
Why: You know where we’re going with this one. Continuing the series of fun runs that are arguably more fun than run, the Color Vibe 5K provides participants with big smiles, lots of color and a dance party at the finish line. Now that’s worth celebrating. For more info, click here.
Easter Seals Rollin’ on the River 5K
When: August 22, first wave at 7 a.m.
Where: Clinton Presidential Center
Why: Whether you choose to run, walk or roll your way through this event, families from all over are welcome to join in the 5K USATF Certified race, the 2K family fun walk or the post-race festivities. We’re talking games, photobooths, food, bounce houses and more. It’s the perfect race to help start winding down the summer months. For more info, click here.
But it doesn’t end there. There are a whole slew of events in the following months, including The Mud Run, the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure and the stellar obstacle race, Conquer the Gauntlet.
