SPONSORED: 5 Single Moms Giving Back to the Central Arkansas Community

Presented by:

Being a parent is hard. And being a single parent is even harder.

But these five single moms — and recipients of the Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund, or ASPSF — juggle school, work and family life, yet still find ways to give back to the community.

Rachel Childers (pictured above) of Benton is involved in suicide prevention outreach. Since graduating from beauty school, she helps others find their inner beauty and shine with confidence through her cosmetology career.

Toccara Pearson of Little Rock has always had a caring heart, which motivated her to pursue a bachelor’s degree in social work. She hopes to one day open a shelter for women.

Raquelle Roulette of North Little Rock mentors other single moms who are working toward their GEDs and entering college. She also fundraises to help women in Africa attend college. After earning her associate degree, she’s now pursuing a bachelor’s in business.

Racheal Williams of North Little Rock graduated with her bachelor’s degree and now teaches the next generation at a local charter school.

Arkansas Single Parent Scholarship Fund has introduced thousands of single parents like these five hardworking women to the transformative power of education. By pairing scholarships with mentoring, developmental workshops and career coaching, ASPSF helps low-income single parents pursue higher education and kick off their careers.

The result? Sustainable employment with family-supporting wages.

ASPSF’s investment in single parents not only expands central Arkansas’ educated workforce in dozens of fields, but also emboldens single parents and their children to imagine a brighter future for themselves and their communities.
