5 Paved Trails to Explore in Little Rock Year Round

Forget the car. One of the best, but often underrated, ways to explore Little Rock is by foot. Our metro area is home to dozens of pedestrian-friendly trails that allow us to appreciate our vibrant cityscape while breaking a great sweat. In honor of Ozone Action Days (OAD), we’re sharing five of the paved paths central Arkansans can explore in the public awareness campaign’s final days and all year long:

1. Situated in the Historic Hillcrest District, Knoop Park is a shorter loop for walkers and runners, accessible with or without strollers in tow. Completely paved, this trail offers an overlook with what many consider the city’s most Instagram-worthy view of downtown.

2. Riverfront Park is more than 30 acres of urban oasis spanning 11 blocks on the banks of the Arkansas River. Its trails have direct access to some of the city’s most well-known attractions, from the Clinton Presidential Center to La Petit Roche Plaza. They also wind through the Vogel-Schwartz Sculpture Garden, which includes dozens of works of art to enjoy during workday strolls or on family outings.

3. Sometimes called a hidden gem, Rock Creek Park is a more than three-mile, out and back trail near the I-430/I-630/Chenal Parkway interchange. It features boardwalks and bridges for pedestrians of all ages.

4. The 6.3-mile Two Rivers Park trail in west Little Rock is one of the most heavily trafficked in the city, and for good reason. Located right off Cantrell, these paths have mountain and river views as well as open meadows to keep you engaged mid-workout.

5. In midtown, War Memorial Park has lengthy walking trails perfect for nearby employees who are looking for midday or after-work exercise options. With rolling hills and abundant greenery, residents can have an outdoor experience in the heart of the city.

Each summer, Metroplan hosts OAD to encourage us to use alternate modes of transportation, such as walking, to help reduce harmful ground-level ozone in the region. End the season strong by lacing up to discover more of our city and help us all breathe easier, too.
