1. Experience: LANTERNS! at Wildwood
Warm your body — and soul — at the fifth annual Lanterns, an outdoor winter festival at Wildwood Park for the Arts. Celebrating the first full moon of the lunar year, Lanterns will feature numerous glowing light sources scattered throughout the park. Walkways will be lit by lakeside fire pits and luminaries that lead into the park’s winter woodlands. Entertainment will be provided at lighted areas along the paths that represent different cultures, including Asia, Bavaria, The Caribbean and New Orleans, among others.
Visitors will also enjoy a warming selection of international foods and beverages available for purchase. Lanterns will take place 6-10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Feb. 22 and 23, and 6-9 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children and free for kids under age 5. Learn more at WildwoodPark.org.
2. Wear: Mo’s Bows
Now, a little something for all our men readers. We happened upon this young man’s story and were immediately smitten by his charm. Young Moziah Bridges, the founder of Mo’s Bows Handmade Bow Ties of Memphis, is on his way to being the next Southern fashion mogul. The 11-year-old learned the skill from his grandmother, who taught him to make bow ties from scraps of material using her sewing machine.
The standard Mo’s Bow comes with snaps, which allows you the pleasure of tying it yourself and being able to adjust it. The handmade ties are available in a variety of patterns and colors. They retail for $45 and can be purchased at BourbonAndBoots.com.
3. Tory Burch Boots
With all the freezing temps this winter, we’ve been living in boots. Happily, many of our favorite boutiques are having excellent winter sales on boots and other items. We fell in love with these Tory Burch classic equestrian boots (not on sale, however) at Barbara/Jean, Ltd. They look great with skirts, jeans and leggings for when we need to pull off the perfect polished look.
4. Piko 1988
We’ve been hearing a lot about Piko shirts, haven’t you? On any given day, there are a heavy handful of coworkers sporting these roomy long sleeve tees with leggings and boots. Accessorize with a long pendant and you have a professional yet comfortable look. The arms are super skinny, but the bodice is flowy and very forgiving. They come in a wide variety of colors. We picked up a few recently at Scarlet in Pleasant Ridge Town Center, but hurry! They sell out quickly. Visit their Facebook page at Scarlet Shop for daily updates on inventory (you can even request they hold one for you!).
5. Animal Prints
According to local fashionistas, animal print is the new black that you can wear with anything. We recently spied this cute cardigan at Vesta’s. It’s the purrrfect (we had to do it!) weight for when the day starts off cold and warms up in the afternoon. Pair it with a bright top and some jeans for a complete look that’s right on trend.
