UA-Pulaski Technical College’s Center for Humanities and Arts (CHARTS) is celebrating Black History Month with a full calendar of events. Throughout February, CHARTS will host a variety of events celebrating the far-reaching impact of black artists and creatives.
All of the events are free and open to the public except “Turning 15 on the Road to Freedom,” a new play with gospel music that tells the true story of Lynda Blackmon Lowery, the youngest person to march from Selma to Montgomery in the 1965 Selma Voting Rights March.

“Women of a New Tribe” Gallery Exhibit
Through Feb. 23 | CHARTS
“Women of a New Tribe” is a photographic study of the physical and spiritual beauty of black American women. Photographed by Jerry Taliaferro, the women represent the black woman in her many physical and social manifestations. The subjects are from all walks of life and include the young and the old, mothers and daughters, artists and professionals.
The Glow: The Hopes and Ambitions of a Rhymer
Feb. 19 at 12:15 p.m. | CHARTS
Epiphany “Big Piph” Morrow is a Stanford-educated international emcee and community builder. Big Piph’s unique brand of entertainment is relayed through the lenses of purpose, humor, creativity, race, and a global perspective. His latest project a one-man, 90-minute show entitled, “The Glow.” The show is free and open to the public.
Turning 15 On the Road to Freedom with Lynda Blackmon
Feb. 23 at 7:30 p.m. | CHARTS
As part of its national tour celebrating the 90th birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. the new play tells the story of Lynda Blackmon, the youngest woman to march from Selma to Montgomery during the Selma Voting Rights March. The performance is adapted from Blackmon’s memoir and Blackmon will be available immediately after the production for a Q&A. Tickets start at $15. For more info or to grab your tickets, click here.
Shaun Boothe: “The Unauthorized Biography Series”
Feb. 27 at 12:15 p.m. | CHARTS
Shaun Boothe is an award-winning hip hop artist, TEDx speaker and creator of “The Unauthorized Biography Series.” The series is a musical project that celebrates the world’s greatest cultural icons through biographical rap songs. Each chapter of the series captures the legacy of an influential iconic figure in a documentary-style music video. Icons featured in the series include Bob Marley, Muhammad Ali, Obama, Oprah, Tupac, Nelson Mandela, Malala Yousafzai and more.
“The Creative Mind” Exhibit
Through April 1 | CHARTS Lobby
On loan from the National Academy of Sciences in D.C., “The Creative Mind” is a traveling exhibit that celebrates the contributions of African Americans to medicine, mathematics, engineering, and all branches of science.
