You keep talking big game about enjoying the warmer weather, and now it’s time to lace up those sneaks. There are all sorts of races and fun runs coming to the capitol city — enough, in fact, that we thought it’d be helpful to map them all out for you. Besides, you should be focused on the running part, not trying to compile details.
Go! Mile
When: June 18, 7 a.m.
Where: Clinton Presidential Center
Why: Short on time and/or heat tolerance? Got it covered. This annual family fun run really is — you guessed it — just one mile long. There’s an elite runners race, a half-mile for kids and The First Mile, a heat designed for newbies with zero pressure, just fun. Click here for more info.
Insane Inflatable 5K
When: June 25, first wave at 8:30 a.m.
Where: Burns Park
Why: Get pumped, you guys. (We’ll be here all week.) This run is like the state fair meets elementary school field day. It’s 3.1 miles of towering, blow-up, moon bounce-type slides and obstacles. Registration includes a medal, T-shirt, bib and childlike wonder. As an added bonus, the run benefits the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life movement. Click here for more info.
Fleet Feet Firecracker Fast 5K
When: July 4, 7:30 a.m.
Where: starting line at University and Kavanaugh, finish line at War Memorial Stadium
Why: This “quick and dirty” race is officially over the hill, and now it’s your turn to follow suit. Yes, you’re going to sweat, but the adrenaline is worth it. It’s not called “firecracker” just for the holiday. Top finishers get cash, the first 50 men and 50 women to finish get prizes and registration alone gets you a goodie bag and a Nike Tech race shirt. Nice. Click here for more info.
Easter Seals Rollin’ on the River 5K
When: August 27, first wave at 7 a.m.
Where: Clinton Presidential Center
Why: Whether you choose to run, walk or roll your way through this event, families from all over are welcome to join in the 5K USATF Certified race, the 2K family fun walk or the post-race festivities. It’s the perfect race to help start winding down the summer months. Click here for more info.
