Community Relations, Acxiom
Acxiom has never been more exciting than it is for me now working with the Community Relations and Matching Gift programs. Acxiom has placed a focus on volunteerism, and teams are in place around the world to lead volunteer efforts. My role is to direct Acxiom corporate donations and sponsorship dollars to assist communities where our associates live and work globally. Although we donate thousands of dollars annually to charities and institutions around the world, our associates dedicating thousands of hours of service to their communities gives us the greatest pride.
On Power
People often underestimate the power of time. Giving of your time to volunteer or even attend a fundraising event can have a positive impact on a group of individuals in need, most of whom you will never meet, but will impact.
I felt most powerful when I was my son’s patient care advocate in 2006. After a car accident, we spent months in Arkansas Children’s Hospital while he was in a coma with a traumatic brain injury. “Mama bears” are very powerful.
A true sign of power is God’s love. I don’t think you can get more powerful than that.
On Success
I strive to be and do better every day. If I have made someone laugh, feel good about themselves, or helped in a positive way, I consider that a success.
I have an opportunity every day to see the positive impact that Acxiom is making in the community where I live. I would like to continue to help Acxiom and its associates leave a lasting imprint on this great big world in a positive way.
Powerful Day
Recently I coordinated an event with the Make-A-Wish Foundation for a child with a life-threatening illness. Her wish was to take a trip to Disney World, and Acxiom helped grant that wish for her and her family. Along with Mickey, Minnie and Daisy (all Acxiom volunteers), we watched this fragile 4-year-old walk into a room full of strangers and floating balloons to find out that she would indeed be going to Disney World. The impact that little face and day made on my life will never be forgotten.
The Quiz
- Favorite book or genre and what you are reading now: My favorite books are typically nonfiction and set anywhere between the Civil War and present day. Currently I am reading “Unbroken” by Lauren Hillenbrand.
- Pets? I’m a pet lover, and my friends know not to take me anywhere near an animal shelter. I’m a sucker for four legs.
