I joined BKD, LLP, right after college and was elected to the partnership in 2003. BKD, LLP, is a top U.S. CPA firm in terms of size, expertise and service, and it is the largest CPA firm in Arkansas. I serve as the Health Care Industry Niche Leader for Arkansas and specialize in advising hospitals and health systems on accounting, reimbursement, strategic and regulatory matters to help preserve or improve their financial health, enabling continued fulfillment of their missions. I also volunteer as Secretary/Treasurer of Ronald McDonald House Charities of Arkansas.
On Power
People often underestimate the power of laughter—it can relieve stress, improve health and get you through the seemingly unachievable.
I felt most powerful when my niece decided to go to college because she wanted to be independent and successful in her life. I felt that I provided a good example for her and am able to help her along the way. Of course, her parents have a lot to do with it too. She is finishing up her junior year and doing great!
A true sign of power is when people are willing to follow your leadership, which affects change and favorably impacts others.
On Success
I have a checklist, and when I get almost through the checklist (which is always changing), I’ll consider myself a success.
On Motivation
I love volunteering! It’s fulfilling to “give back,” supporting families in need of a home away from home at the Ronald McDonald House. My goals include being an impactful, supportive leader with BKD, LLP, provide rewarding career opportunities for the team and retire early; then, maybe on to something fun like horticulture or making interesting things.
Power Suited
A crisp, smooth feeling, dark suit; a silky or frilly blouse, preferably with a pop of color; Jimmy Choo or Prada sling-back heels; Wolford hosiery; tasteful jewelry; fabulously big hair.
I think it’s important to take pride in the way you look, not only on a power day, but always when in public. I do not own a pair of jeans and have a friend that jokingly accuses me of gardening in a suit. Of course, that’s not true!
