We all scream for ice cream, right? That goes double for new ice cream shops, and your favorite handcrafted ice cream connoisseur Loblolly Creamery just opened one of its very own.
Located next door to The Green Corner Store, Loblolly's first home, the new space joins the lineup of SoMa neighborhood staples after opening to the public on June 2.
So what does having their own space mean for Loblolly? According to director of brand and marketing Elizabeth Strandberg, it means more space and more scoops, especially with new extended hours.
"We want to stay open later for the community so that they can enjoy Loblolly after they have dinner or if they have a sudden craving for dessert before bedtime," Strandberg says. "We'll have the ability to control our hours, which gives us flexibility to create more pop-up events and room to experiment."
The space itself is modern and minimalistic, but still shows off Loblolly's signature charm, starting with the cartoon ice cream cone greeting you over the door and continuing to the kitschy mural on the back wall.
"We wanted to create a bright space that was inspired by ice cream," Strandberg says. "Our mural, painted by Layet Johnson, was something that we wanted to act as a landing point for our main room, something that folks could explore to see the inspiration behind the brand — local, natural, handmade and fun."
Part of that design includes a new, giant dipping cabinet that holds up to 32 ice cream flavors, a refrigerator stocked with ice cream pints and drinks, a merchandise shop and more than 15 outlets around the store, inviting people to ditch Starbucks and work from an ice cream shop instead. Need another reason? Loblolly has a lineup of new coffee and espresso equipment, and will soon be serving up Mountain Bird Coffee and Espresso.
The new Loblolly Creamery is located at 1423 South Main and is open 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. Sunday-Monday and 11 a.m. - 9 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday. Keep up with all things scoop-related by following along on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
